Interpretação

Trata-se do momento que antecede uma conquista ou a realização de um empreendimento. As condições são difíceis e as tarefas exigem grande responsabilidade. O momento, apesar de delicado, promete bons resultados. O Livro, para ensinar a conduta correta em tais situações, utiliza como imagem a cautela de uma velha raposa andando sobre o gelo. Orelhas levantadas para perceber qualquer estalo de gelo partindo, ela procura com grande cuidado pisar nos lugares seguros. Já uma jovem raposa, que desconhece essa prudência, avança com ousadia e pode cair na água, molhando sua cauda quando está prestes a completar a travessia. Para ela, todo o esforço foi inútil. Nos períodos que precedem a conclusão, a cautela e a reflexão são condições fundamentais para o sucesso

O homem nobre é cauteloso ao distinguir as coisas, para que cada uma ocupe o lugar adequado.

Interpretação

Para alcançar um resultado favorável, é preciso analisar a natureza das forças em jogo e descobrir a posição que corresponde a cada uma. Dispostas de modo adequado, as forças produzirão o efeito esperado e a conclusão terá êxito. A condição para um homem manejar as forças externas é, antes de tudo, adotar o ponto de vista correto. Só a partir desse momento poderá ele agir de modo correto. Nota: O hexagrama 63 – Após a Conclusão – representa a transição gradual de uma época de desenvolvimento e apogeu cultural para uma época de estagnação. O hexagrama 64 – Antes da conclusão – representa a transição do caos à ordem. Surgindo ao final do Livro das Mutações, este hexagrama mostra que todo término dá lugar a um novo início; transmite assim ao homem esperança. O Livro das Mutações é um livro do futuro.
